May was another active month for Bribie Bird Rescue, with our team responding to 31 injured and sick native birds across Bribie Island and surrounding areas. Every rescue presented its own unique challenges, from fishing line entanglements to injured pelicans and seabirds requiring immediate attention.
Thanks to the continued support of our volunteers, donors, and local community, we were able to provide timely care to birds in need while working towards their rehabilitation and eventual return to the wild.
Rescue Highlights
Throughout May, our rescue efforts included a wide variety of native bird species, each requiring individual assessment and specialised care. While every rescue is different, our mission remains the same—to provide injured wildlife with the best possible chance of recovery.
Some of the common rescue situations this month included:
- Birds entangled in fishing line and hooks
- Pelicans requiring urgent assistance
- Injured seabirds found along local beaches
- Birds suffering from illness or dehydration
- Native birds affected by environmental hazards
Each rescue contributes valuable knowledge that helps improve wildlife rehabilitation and conservation efforts.
Supporting Native Bird Rehabilitation
Following rescue, each bird undergoes a careful assessment to determine the most appropriate course of treatment. Depending on the condition of the bird, rehabilitation may involve:
- Emergency rescue and safe transport
- Veterinary assessment
- Hydration and nutritional support
- Wound treatment and monitoring
- Flight conditioning before release
- Ongoing rehabilitation when required
Our goal is always to return healthy birds to their natural environment whenever possible.
Community Support Makes a Difference
Wildlife rescue is a community effort. Every donation, volunteer contribution, and rescue call helps ensure native birds receive the care they need.
The ongoing support of our community allows Bribie Bird Rescue to continue responding to hundreds of wildlife emergencies each year while promoting education and awareness about native bird conservation.
Looking Ahead
As seasonal conditions change, rescue demands continue to evolve. We remain committed to providing professional rescue services, rehabilitation, and education to protect Australia’s native birdlife.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support our mission. Together, we can help give every injured bird a second chance.
